The young man held the lobby door open for his mother and I was taken by his earnest expression.
Michael quietly listened as his mother shared their sorrowful story of abandonment and losing a loved one to suicide. All the while, Michael stood close to his mother's side, placing a comforting hand on her back.
As we paused to pray, Michael gave a soft "no thank you", his mother's eyes pleading, "I just want him to find Christ."
For the past two months, visitors to Mercy Mall have been invited to share their "Dream Big." For this mother, her hopes and dreams were focused on her son being filled with God's abundant love.
Though we serve families with practical items, showing the love of Jesus is one thing that sets us apart. Our prayers will continue for Michael and all of the young people we serve - to have an open heart for God to fill.
That day as Michael left, I reassured him… "Although your heart is closed to God right now, God's heart is always open to you."
